Affiliate Marketing - Choosing an Affiliate Program & Affiliate Competition
As an affiliate marketer, there are several mistakes I made when I first started affiliate marketing. The biggest mistake I made was believing the conversions vendors and other affiliate marketers claimed to have. Now, after experience, I know that many of these claims are hype.
After a few months of affiliate marketing with Clickbank products and promoting those products that had a high gravity score and were quite popular, I decided to go a different route because I did not find that these products made me money for several reasons. The main reason was that too many affiliate marketers were promoting these products. It was quite expensive to bid on relevant keywords in PPC search engine advertising and I wanted to keep my advertising costs low while enjoying decent conversion rates.
What I decided to do was focus on new products that I thought would sell based on my own impression of the landing page provided and what I thought would be the popularity of the product being sold.
This new focus had a great effect. Both of the products and product categories had very few competitors and with little competition, I was able to garner a good portion of the market for these products.
In the month that I had little competition, I witnessed my biggest earnings as an affiliate and decided at that point to make sure I promoted products with little or no competition.
What I learned from one month of experience was that marketing affiliate products successfully partially depends on how many others are promoting the same products. While you want to promote products consumers are going to want to buy, you also need to be on the look out for new products that very few affiliate marketers are promoting. You may actually discover a money maker as well as give yourself a learning experience that will not put you in the red.
