Skilled copywriters are paid thousands to produce those killer pitch pages with which we are all too familiar. Every word, every nuance, every bullet point is refined and tweaked, with the sole object of ensnaring the reader, like a rabbit in the headlights.

And you know what? It works. We fall for it, hook, line and bonuses. Or perhaps we do for the first few, because we re newbies and don t know any better. We re caught up in the rush of internet success. The sales pitch says it s foolproof, our money back if we aren t successful this guy s done it, he s made millions, and now he can show us how to do the same.

Then we start to wise up. Perhaps we learn more about those copywriting secrets and realise that we re starting to do the same thing for our products and ebooks. So we become a bit more indifferent to the next big hype that lands in the inbox, and suddenly indifference turns to annoyance because now we can see behind the façade, the promises, the dodgy testimonials from their fellow gurus, the obligatory time limited offers.

Occasionally, I do see pitches that appeal to me. They stand out because they re not several kilometres long and straight off the “How To Write Killer Pitch Pages That Sell” production line. They have an integrity that is hard to define, but you know it when you see it, and so far I haven t been disappointed because they tell it like it is, guide you carefully, step by step, and appreciate that not everyone is an internet savvy whizz. Something the heavyweight gurus can learn from.
